British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Wednesday (March 13) there should be a political solution to the violent upheaval in Syria, and a civil war or revolution is inevitable if President Bashar al-Assad continues his crackdown.

Cameron also warned Assad that international law has a long reach and memory regarding human rights violations as he discussed efforts to document atrocities throughout Syria.

Cameron's comments came at a joint news conference with U.S. President Barack Obama following a 2-hour meeting on a range of issues, including Syria, Afghanistan and Iran.

Obama echoed similar sentiments regarding Syria saying that Assad will leave power.

"It is not a question of if but when," the U.S. president said. Regarding Afghanistan, he said he did not expect any change in the pace of the U.S. withdrawal from the country.
