We were honored to have Nathaniel Rateliff on BalconyTV London, albeit not quite on a balcony. He's such an incredible talent we had to buck the trend and so the mountain came to Mohamed.

Nathaniel grew up of modest means, the son of devout Southern churchgoers. The family sang together throughout his childhood and his youth in rural Missouri was quiet and rambling. When he was only 13 he picked up the guitar. His mother taught him three chords, a friend showed him a few more, and there was no need to bother with lessons; he started penning his own songs on an acoustic.

At eighteen Rateliff relocated to Denver, learned the piano (and anything else he could get his hands on) and developed a dedicated following within the Denver music community and beyond.

Cut to now, and Nathaniel is garnering an incredible following, has appeared on Jools Holland, and released his album 'In Memory of Loss' earlier this year, it being described as: "A remarkable debut -- it has the weary heart of something made by a man 20 or 30 years older... and is worthy of its place against albums that were".

The man himself says, "the one thing that made me want to write and play music was trying to get the same feeling that it gave me when I listened to it. Like having an anxiety attack—where you almost start to weep, at the same time feel a strange pressure in your chest." This persistent troubadour has struggled and persevered to this point; now, the wider world is ready for Nathaniel Rateliff. 'In Memory of Loss', he says, "is for everyone who's willing to listen."

Nathaniel is playing End of the Road Festival on 2nd - 4th September at Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset and 'In Memory of Loss' is out now.
