STORY: Italian designer Giambattista Valli looked to Eighties nightclub the Sound Factory in New York for inspiration when he presented his collection for the forthcoming season.

Models wore an array of dresses, Valli's forte, as proved by his recent ascent to couture in January, from knit workwear dresses, short party dresses with touches of fur and long, flowing chiffon gowns.

Geometric shapes provided an interesting twist to some of the designs, which were seen on dresses, tunics and even trousers.

A gold, snakeskin-printed, collarless mac was one of the stand out pieces, modeled by one of the biggest faces of the moment Puerto Rican Joan Smalls.

The designer is known to dress some of Hollywood's bright young starlets including Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Emma Stone, who's red bow tie dress was one of the highlights of last month's Academy Awards, according to fashion experts.
