Dr. Seuss tops the weekend box office

The animated movie version of Dr. Seuss story "The Lorax" climbed to the top of weekend box office charts with a stronger-than-expected nearly 71 million dollars (USD) in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales, studio estimates released on Sunday (March 04) showed.

The film tells the story of a young boy who must discover the story of Lorax in order to win the affection of a girl he likes. Zac Efron and Taylor Swift lend their voices to the project.

Second-place belonged to the film "Project X," a new comedy about a group of high school students who throw a party that gets out of hand. The film took in a respectable 21 million at domestic theaters from Friday through Sunday.

Rounding out the top three was the "Act of Valor," a military drama in its second weekend in theaters, with 13.7 million.

Pop star Katy Perry appears to be in fine form after the break up of her marriage to comedian Russell Brand. The singer was among the stars checking out the latest designs at the Paris Fashion week.
