Some reports say at least 13 people have been killed in this head-on train crash near Chalupki in southern Poland.
Dozens more, up to 60, have been injured.
Passengers say they had no idea what was going on.
SOUNDBITE: Unidentified surviving passenger saying (Polish):
"I felt the impact. I hit the person in front of me. The lights went out, everything flew. We flew over the compartment like baggage. We could hear screams. We prayed."
Rescue teams are searching painstakingly through the wreckage for survivors.
SOUNDBITE: Jaroslaw Wojtasik, fire fighter, saying (Polish):
"The rescue is difficult and complicated. The damage to the carriages is huge. We have contact with the victims. We're approaching very cautiously."
Poland's transport minister says it's one of the nation's worst railway accidents in years.
About 450 firefighers and 100 police officers are involved in the rescue operation.
The exact cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
