PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
FROM THE MORGAN HOTEL IN TEMPLE BAR
One of the most exciting acts to come out of Dublin in years, Champagne Animal comprises: Siobhan Lynch (vocals) Dave Kennedy (guitar) Ronnie Whelan (bass) Dan Frawley (drums) And Matt Burney (keys and backing vocals). The unique, yet accessible, sound of the band stems from the members' eclectic tastes and experiences in music which range from rock, gospel, indie, pop and even classical. Very few bands incorporate such wide ranging influences. This broad spectrum of styles results in a sound which is fresh, punchy and emotionally charged. But how to describe Champagne Animal? The answer to that is simple: You can't. Well, not in one simple adjective, such is the range of collective styles of the musicians. And, anyway, all five members of the band are reluctant to attach labels to anyone or anything. What you get is what you hear. But you'll like what you hear from Champagne Animal, a collective which aims to move, as well as entertain, its audience. Siobhan and Dave have been penning tracks for the past 6 months focusing on themes of abandonment, loss and unrequited love, which is perfectly reflected in the rich harmonies and longing melodic lines of the music coupled with the heartfelt meaning inherent in the song's lyrics. Siobhan's idiosyncratic vocal style is perfectly suited to the themes her lyrics focus on and the harmonies which the band brings to the songs provide a depth of meaning which hits straight to the heart and which brilliantly reflects a myriad of emotions - all rolled up into one unique musical package. During the band's debut gig at the Sugar Club in Dublin in the summer of 2010, Champagne Animal showcased four original tracks as well as some covers. The crowd's response was overwhelming, many fans leaving the venue unable to get the chorus of 'All I Can Give' our of their head. The band looks forward to performing a host of gigs in the coming months and welcomes feedback from anyone interested in hearing more about Champagne Animal.
