On board the Costa Allegra.

Amateur video taken by one of those aboard the stricken vessel shows passengers crammed on the ship's top deck. Sweltering heat and lack of air conditioning made it impossible for people to stay in their cabins.

On Monday, a fire on the boat knocked out the vessel's main power supply. Passengers were left in the dark, with no air conditioning, showers or hot food.

Helicopters were used to supply the passengers with food but with no functioning kitchen the diet was basic.

The ships Captain praised passengers at a news conference ion the Seychelles where the ship was towed.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) COSTA ALLEGRA CAPTAIN NICCOLO ALBA SAYING:

"Firstly, I would like to thank with all my heart all of my staff, everybody from the officials to the crew to the staff. All of my wonderful passengers who behaved admirably, respecting all my instructions when the emergency was announced. They were really great."

Costa Cruises, which owns the ship, said 376 passengers had accepted its offer to continue their holiday in the Seychelles, where a carnival kicks off on Friday, at the firm's expense.
