Florence Welch won two prizes at the NME music awards in London on Wednesday (February 29), eclipsing chart champion and Grammy queen Adele.

Welch, 25, won the best solo artist category and her band Florence + the Machine scooped best song with "Shake It Out" which they performed on the night.

Former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher was honored with the Godlike Genius award.

SOUNDBITE Noel Gallagher saying (English):

"I've kind of grown up reading the NME and my career for one of a better word has been documented from the start in the NME. So that's all good and it's nice that they still care after twenty odd years -- whatever it is. I don't know how long I've been going. So yeah it's great."

Gallagher is currently pursuing his new solo project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds,

NME Awards is annual event founded by the popular British music magazine of the same name.
