U2 lead singer Bono takes a stroll around Peru's ancient Machu Picchu ruins.

He tried to avoid crowds of fans by going in through the back entrance of the famed Incan archaeological site.

But word soon spread and he was later surrounded by eager onlookers...prompting the singer to share a few words.

SOUNDBITE: U2 lead singer, Bono, saying (English):

"It's a great pleasure, a great privilege to be here at this incredibly sophisticated ancient place."

The visit was part of a week-long trip to Peru by the rockstar and his wife.

Machu Picchu is one of South America's top tourist attractions and is considered one of the seven man-made wonders of the world.

It's also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
