Bekah Kelso, the "souled-out folk-hop" singer/songwriter from Austin TX, took to the road 3 years ago and watched happily as the world of convention grew smaller in her rearview mirror. She's been traveling, writing, performing, recording, expanding, adventuring, and making magic on the road full time ever since. With a lyrical prowess that has been called "common sense for the uncommon soul", a stunningly dynamic vocal range and a flair for funky guitar rhythms, Bekah delivers an earthy, soulful folk-hop style that is a little Fiona Apple, a little KT Tunstall, a little Lauryn Hill and a lot of Love Is All You Need. Her memorable live-show candor has been evolving on stages throughout North America, stages that range from acclaimed and illustrious to completely homemade and in your back yard. No surprise here, much of her career path so far has broken with more traditional routes.
Performance arts has peppered her life. As a tiny young thing she watched countless performances of "Alice", her father's psychedelic rock opera, a wild ride into Wonderland. A few years later she was singing and dancing in productions of Ziegfeld Follies. At 10 she was crowned Ms. Junior Alamo City, though don't tell her we told you -- beauty pageants have a way of muddying your street cred. She continued to pursue acting, dancing, and music in every way she could, finding the magic of performance irresistible. After high school she moved up the road from her hometown of San Antonio to Austin TX. There she taught herself how to play guitar and began learning the music business from the inside out, taking classes on commercial music management and going on tour with rock bands. Whatever the opportunity, if it presented a way to enrich her understanding of music or the industry, she was down for the ride.
Fast forward. After years of working full-time in a spirited gypsy duo project called GBmojo, Bekah has modified her direction and is now touring solo. She is currently working on her next release 'Departures' a project in which she plans to explore, cultivate, and fully capture the hybrid 'folk-hop' sound she's been dreaming of. Her mission is to melt your heart with the soulful passion of her vocal performance then blow your mind with a sick hip-hop flow. Though touring solo, she is working with a band locally. She's got solo shows on February 9th at Carmens de la Calle in San Antonio, February 22nd at G.I.G. on the Strip in San Antonio, and a full band show at Darwin's Pub in Austin Texas on February 25th.
