Oscar nominees, winners and global celebrities wend their way around Los Angeles to celebrate Hollywood's biggest night.

For many the first stop was the Governor's Ball, the official Oscars after party, where first time winner Jean Dujardin and Meryl Streep posed for pictures with their golden guys.

Next stop was the Vanity Fair party attended by power couples David and Victoria Beckham and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Last year's best actor winner Colin Firth seemed relieved to have the spotlight off him.

SOUNDBITE: Colin Firth, actor, saying (English):

"I don't know if I'm the still the king of anything, I'm having a bit of fun. It was great, a lot of fun. A bit more relaxed. [Reporter: What was bit like giving Meryl her award?] A moment of a lifetime really. You know what, I couldn't hear it because I was standing behind her, so I'll have to look at it on YouTube."

But the hottest ticket in town had a French twist with the cast of best picture winner, "The Artist," celebrating at a party hosted by film studio The Weinstein Company.

The film's director Michel Hazanavicius was thrilled over the win.

SOUNDBITE: Michel Hazanavicius, director, saying (French):

"I am very honored because this is the highest honor a director can receive. And, being a French person, it's something that I could have never dreamt about."

With his role of George Valentin, in the black and white silent film, Dujardin became the first Frenchman to win a best actor Academy Award.

SOUNDBITE: Jean Dujardin, actor, saying (English):

"I'm thrilled, I am very happy, I'm very proud, I'm shocked. I am over the moon."

And so was the pooch from the film, Uggie.
