Yemen's new president is sworn in

Yemen's government welcomes new President Abd-Rabbu Monsour Hadi.

On Saturday, Hadi took his presidential oath, formally removing Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in the wake of months of widespread unrest.

Hadi was the sole candidate in recent elections to replace Saleh.

Around 60% of eligible voters took part in the polls.

After being sworn in, the new leader promised to meet his challenges head on to prevent Yemen from descending into further chaos.

He faces many obstacles as he takes office, including embedded al Qaeda operatives, a struggling economy and unrest in the north and south of the country.
