Two separate skirmishes broke out in Colombia as military forces battled against the FARC on Wednesday (February 22).

In Tulua, some 350 kilometres (217 miles) west of the capital Bogota, local television images showed children scattering as police battled FARC rebels in the streets.

Journalists were gathered to cover a car bomb threat when FARC forces attacked the town.

The bomb was reportedly left in the road to attack military vehicles that patrol the area, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, the Air Force combined with police forces for an operation against the FARC's 57th Front in the Vigia del Fuerte region.

Video provided by the Air Force showed helicopters circling the jungle, firing on rebels with machine guns and dropping bombs.

They reportedly killed six rebel fighters and seized guns from a jungle camp.
