Spain's filmmaking royalty gathered in Madrid for the 26th annual Goya Awards, the country's equivalent of the Oscars.

Shining on the red carpet was Mexican actress Salma Hayek, who was nominated for best actress for her role in the movie "As Luck Would Have It".

The 45-year-old Hayek didn't win, but said she was happy to be there.

"The Goyas are legendary. I never thought in my life that I would be here tonight. I'm very grateful to the Spanish Academy for thinking on me and including me tonight."

Also present was actor Antonio Banderas whose movie, "The Skin I Live In", walked away with four honors.

He graced the red carpet with wife Melanie Griffith.

Director of the movie, Pedro Almodovar said winning was not important.

"The reason at least for me to work is not just to give an award or to receive an award but in this case is always a celebration. I'm very happy, I'm very happy."

The film's lead actress Elena Anaya won the trophy for best actress.

But the biggest winner of the night was police thriller "No rest for the wicked" snatching six honors, including the prize for best film and best director, Enrique Urbizu.
