More than 200 passengers in Hawaii were struggling to find alternative ways home after the collapse of Air Australia.

They're among thousands stranded by the failure of the budget airline which grounded all its flights on Thursday.

The company's gone into voluntary administration after running out of cash to meet its operating expenses.

The airline ran routes to Honolulu, Bali and Phuket, and to cities within Australia.

In Phuket about 4, 000 travellers were left stranded on Friday.

Qantas and Jetstar said they would help affected passengers and that they'd added information to the websites about what flights were available.

Some 300 jobs are risk as a result of the airline's collapse.

Administrators said on Friday they were hoping the firm could be sold.
