India, Agastheeswaram Taluk, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu: Bednet distributions

Malaria is on the rise in India and Tamil Nadu state has some of the worst affected areas in the country. Rather than existing throughout the state, there are pockets where malaria is emerging as a significant illness.

The nets were distributed to specific villages in the affected areas to achieve blanket coverage, meaning all villagers will sleep under a net. Blanket coverage makes it very difficult for malaria-carrying mosquitoes to find a blood meal and can reduce the incidence of malaria by between 60-90%. Such a sharp decline in malaria cases has an obvious dramatic effect on the health of a village.
