PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
Australian singer-songwriter Chiara Browne signed to Warner Chappell Music when she was 18 and was swiftly moved to Nashville where she spent time writing and developing her style. She recalls seeing snow for the fi rst time in Nashville falling on a guitar shaped swimming pool! Although her material is tinged with a country fl avour her music is diverse and likened to "bluesy singers like Bonnie Raitt & Janis Joplin" (Hot Press). More names that frequently emerge in relation to Chiara's voice and music are Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crowe, Gillian Welch, Julie London and even Thom Yorke! Returning to Sydney, Chiara enjoyed a successful period of performance and collaboration with many established Australian acts such as Steve Clark (Died Pretty). In 2000, she moved to Ireland via the UK where she co-wrote with Boo Hewerdine (The Bible, Eddi Reader). She has played solo at the Edinburgh Festival and with her band has played Irish festivals Hooves & Grooves and Rhythm & Roots. Regular support slots have seen Chiara play with Declan O'Rourke, Damien Dempsey, Roesy, Gail Davies, Sonny Condell and Gretchen Wilson.
