Luca Aquino is a young trumpet and flugelhorn player with a very different sound. He loves Davis but also Freddie Hubbard and pursues the contemporary and metropolitan sounds of John Hassel and Nils Petter Molvaer, blending them to form a poetic of melody and timbre that is entirely Italian. In him jazz lives and doesn’t die. This is because he moves incessantly in search of what this music can offer between past and present. Swing, beautiful notes and digital sounds, united to the timbre of his instrument and that of his magnificent fellow musicians, offer youthful hope for our music.
