The cast and crew of "The Artist'' received the inaugural "Made in Hollywood'' Award.

It honors the movie for being shot exclusively in Los Angeles and it comes on the heels of its Academy Award nomination for best picture.

Jean Dujardin, the Oscar-nominated star of the mostly silent, black-and-white film, joined director, Michel Hazanavicius and fellow cast and crew members on the soundstage where the final scene was filmed.

Hazanavicius said the reason why they shot in L.A. was simple.

SOUNDBITE: Michel Hazanavicius, director, saying (English):

"Everybody here is American. There is no one who looks more American than another American. The props, the cars, the streets, everything was accurate making the movie here."

Uggie, the four legged star of the film is currently at the center of a mild controversy.

Fans are campaigning for the pooch to receive an honorary Oscar.

His co-star, actress Penelope Ann Miller put things into perceptive.

SOUNDBITE: Penelope Ann Miller, actress, saying (English):

"What if actors all went out and got mad because they weren't nominated. The dog can't speak for himself but he probably deserves to be nominated. I feel bad for the dog."

The city hopes to present the award annually to each best picture nominee shot exclusively in Los Angeles.
