Rama is the hero of this tale and he is portrayed as an incarnation of the god Vishnu. He is the eldest and the favorite son of the King of Ayodhya, Dasaratha. The Ramayana follows the life of Rama and his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana and even today is a vey important part of Indian mytholoy and culture. * In this story Ram and Lakshman continue their search for Sita in the forests but they have no idea where to begin their search. While searching, they are attacked by a demoness Ayomukhi and by an ugly demon Dhanu. Upon dying however, Dhanu is revealed as a Gandharva (demigod) who had been cursed by a sage to become an ugly demon. He tells Ram to seek out the exiled vanara Sugriva, who would be of vital help in his search for Sita. In Kishkindha-Kanda Rama meets Hanuman a close friend, follower and advisor of Sugriva. Rama makes an alliance with Sugriva, who was exiled by his brother Vali, the king of the Vanaras. Hanuman voluntarily accepts Rama as his master. Sugriva kills Vali with Rama's help. Sugriva is crowned as the king of Kishkindha. Thereupon, Hanuman proceeds to Lanka in search of Sita. He takes Rama's ring as a token but desipte all his efforts he fails to find Sita
