Lakshmi Rai was born into a Tulu-speaking Bunt family in Belgaum, Karnataka. Lakshmi Rai initially worked as a model before entering the film industry. She appeared in several television ads such as Sylcon Footwears, Josco Jewellers and Emmanuel Silks.
