A Beijing man lost around US$750 from his bank account after an encounter with a fake ATM. The man, surnamed Ma, visited an ATM in Beijing only to find the machine was not working after entering his PIN number. Unaware the ATM was not real, the man contacted his bank later in the day after his card was refused at another location, only to discover there wasn't an ATM at the location and that he had been robbed.
