Back to school in Libya.
More than a million children returned to school in Libya Saturday. Now some 10 months after evacuating classrooms because of the country's uprising, students are back in the classroom.
The school year, which normally starts in September, was pushed to January because schools were closed during the nine-month civil war which ended Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year rule.
(SOUNDBITE) (ARABIC) LIBYAN EDUCATION MINISTER, SULEIMAN AL-SAHELI, SAYING:
"Today we have inaugurated the new school year with high spirits of our sons, daughters along with teachers, we support them. It is a new academic year that will be free of obstacles and free of instructions (from the Gaddafi regime) that had no links to the education system."
One of the first things the National Transitional Council (NTC) did after taking up arms against Gaddafi was to set up a committee to expunge his "teachings" from the curriculum.
