Chilean protesters face water cannons

Police fired tear gas and water cannons on protesters in Santiago, Chile on Wednesday.
A few dozen student demonstrators were protesting outside the house of local mayor Cristian Labbe, who supports former dictator, Augusto Pinochet.
The students were already organised to hold their ongoing rallies for free education when they grouped near Labbe's home.
Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. Some were detained.
They were outraged when the mayor hosted a ceremony last November in honour of a general who is serving a prison sentence of 144 years, for human rights violations during Pinochet's regime.
Over the past year, Chile has seen a number of student protests end up in violence.
