Chinese clash over proposed power plant

Riot police fire tear gas into a crowd of protesters in a small city in southeastern China.
Residents are furious over plans to build a coal-fired power plant they say will further pollute the area's air and sea.
In response, villagers took to the streets blocking off an expressway and surrounding a government building.
This amateur video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, shows the protests escalating as demonstrators and police clash.
Recently, Chinese have been unwilling to support the nation's relentless drive for urbanization and industrialization.
This has led the government to try and calm the growing number of disenfranchised citizens before next year's Congress, where officials will discuss "harmonious solutions" to the unrest.
