Drying apricots with solar technology in Tajikistan
  • 12 years ago
In the north of Tajikistan, Tusunbibi Abdulloeva's family produces dried apricots. They have increased their profits seven-fold since installing a 'solar drier' provided by Christian Aid partner ASDP Nau. Rising temperatures and erratic weather had been damaging the quality of their produce but with the new solar equipment, the quality is safeguarded and much improved. Since the collapse of the USSR in 1991, Tajikistan has struggled to generate energy as its infrastructure has become dilapidated. WIth funding from the EU, Christian Aid is bringing alternative technologies to schools, hospitals, and farmers.
