As a third and last contribution to my Yale Blues triptych, I share another very rarely heard song and band. Will Quintrell (?-1946) was an Australian bandleader active from the 1910s through the 1940s. He spent most of his career at Sydney's Tivoli Theatre (1914-1932). He also performed at the Regent Theatres in Brisbane and Sydney, as well as at Melbourne's Williamson Theatre. The first photograph shows another orchestra led by Quintrell: "Will Quintrell and The Royal Syncopators", a band resident at Sydney's Regent Theatre. Left to right: Back row - Dick Porter - trumpet ; middle row - Keith Lester - horn ; Bill Smith - sax ; Sammy Cope - drums ; Frank Bull - piano. Front row: Will Quintrell - leader ; Will James - banjo (father of Barbara James) ; Jock Thompson - sax ; clarinet -?. This excellent record was made in 1928. Vocal by Len Maurice.
