Ford History - Thunderbird

The recovery of Ford after the conflict was centered on the pickups, transport vehicles with an open body that even today are the typical of American roads. In 1949, a new model, the Custom, was launched characterized by a large chrome studs in the middle of the front resembling a Cyclops eye and big full wrap fenders. The v 8 engine was ncreased in size and led to 3916 cubic centimeters. The early fifties saw Ford booming under the direction of Henry Ford II. A model that characterized the period was Thunderbird, introduced in 1954, which became a viable alternative to European sports cars. Thunderbird could compete also with American rivals thanks to the powerful engine 4785 cc displacement and 193 horses. Thunderbird built in 3 series until the early 60s is one of the legendary American cars. During the relaunch of the group in the late fifties returned also Lincoln Continental with the model Mark 2 implemented in different versions. The Continental became infamous because John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in its cabrio version. In the fifties, Ford Taunus ans Anglia were produced in Europe and East Anglia. Mustang is identified with a breed of horses of the prairie and it comes from the mispronunciation of the Spanish origin name: Mestengo. But now Mustang stands for Ford sport car for the first time introduced in the 1964 at World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York. It's another American legendary car with aluminum body panels and available with two engines with 6 and 8 cylinders. In 1966 the company, directed by Lee Jacocca young manager, announced that it had already reached one million cars sold in the coupé, convertible and fastback, and the ability to choose as many as 50 options. Un modello caratterizzò quel periodo, la Thunderbird, introdotta nel mercato nel 1954, che divenne una valida alternativa alle vetture sportive, provenienti dall'europa. Anche con le rivali statunitensi la Thunderbird fu in grado di competere, grazie al potente motore di 4785 centimetri cubi di cilindrata da 193 cavalli. La Thunderbird costruita in tre serie fino all'inizio degli anni sessanta è una delle vetture mitiche a stelle e strisce. Nella fase di rilancio del gruppo rientrò verso la fine degli anni cinquanta anche la lincoln con il modello continental Mark 2. realizzato in varie versioni. La continental divenne tristemente famosa perché su una versione scoperta John Fitzgerald Kennedy fu assassinato a Dallas. Negli anni cinquanta la Ford produsse in europa la Taunus e l'Anglia. Con Mustang si identifica una razza di cavalli della prateria statunitense e il nome deriva dalla storpiatura di quello di origine spagnola: Mestengo. Mustang però ormai identifica la ford sportiva introdotta per la prima volta nel 1964 alla Fiera Mondiale di Flushing Meadows presso New York. Un'altra auto mitica del panorama motoristico americano, con carrozzeria in pannelli di alluminio e disponibile con due motori a 6 e 8 cilindri. Nel 1966 l'azienda, diretta dal giovane manager Lee Jacocca, annunciò di aver già raggiunto un milione di auto vendute nelle versioni coupé, convertible e fastback, e con la possibilità di scegliere ben 50 optional. Anche Se la mustang introdusse in america un gusto di tipo europeo, in Ford si proseguì comunque la produzione di auto di grandi dimensioni come la galaxy, rinnovata nel 1966.
