U.S. President Barack Obama vowed to bolster U.S. efforts to fight AIDS, setting a new goal of providing treatment to 6 million people worldwide, up from the earlier goal of 4 million.

Former U.S. President George W. Bush also addressed the conference by satellite from Tanzania.
Bush and his wife Laura kicked off their five day African tour Thursday with a visit to Tanzania to promote efforts to fight HIV and Malaria.
Bush is celebrated in many parts of Africa for large-scale health initiatives on the continent he sponsored while in office.
This is Bush's first visit to Africa since leaving office.
A statement from his office said it was to celebrate the "remarkable progress made over the past decade to address the challenges of diseases, security and poverty".
