A U.S. man who had been the prime suspect in an American woman's disappearance in Aruba was freed on Tuesday (November 29) after a judge ruled prosecutors could no longer hold him in custody.
Gary Giordano spent nearly four months in jail, after 35-year-old Robyn Gardner of Maryland disappeared while the two were vacationing on the island in August.
Giordano reported Gardner missing three days after he said she had drowned while snorkeling. Gardner's body has not been found.
Prosecutors planned to charge Giordano and were awaiting an appeals court ruling expected on Wednesday (November 30) that could lead to his extradition.
Giordano was staying at a local hotel, but was expected to leave the island as soon as possible.
Giordano's lawyer, Jose Baez, also defended Casey Anthony, the Florida woman who was recently found not guilty recently of murdering her two year-old daughter.
