Looking thin and tired, newly freed FARC hostage Alberto Erazo is surrounded by family as he recovers in a Colombian hospital.
'Welcome to freedom' a sign reads-- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos wishes him a speedy recovery.
Erazo was discovered by the military over the weekend and brought to safety-- he managed to escape his captors after being held for nearly 12 years, in part by hiding inside a tree trunk.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia--or FARC-- killed four hostages during a botched mission by Colombian forces to save them over a month ago.
The FARC are considered a terrorist group by the U.S. and European nations and have a policy of killing hostages if troops approach their camps.
