French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife welcomed their first child together on Wednesday.
The baby is reported to be a girl.
It is Sarkozy's fourth child, and Carla Bruni's second.
But news of the birth did not spark much interest among the Parisian public.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) CYRIL SAYING:
"I wish them lots of happiness with their child, just like I would wish anyone who had just given birth lots of happiness. But whether that be Sarkozy or the guy down the street makes no difference to me. I'm not really that interested in the birth of Carla... of Carla Bruni's child."
(SOUNDBITE) (French) CHARLES SAYING:
"Well, like with all parents, I don't know, that the kid lives a good life, and that's it really! Whether it's Sarko or not makes no difference to me. There you go, basically that's it. But it's good for them, a good day. Good evening anyway."
The baby is the first child to be born to a French presidential couple while in office.
