With a word from Mayor Hur Nam-sik, the Busan International Film Festival opens.
Considered one of Asia's largest film events, the opening ceremony was held at the newly built Busan Cinema Centre - packed with about 5,000 film makers, entertainers and film fans from around the world.
Hong Kong's director Tsui Hark, Chinese actress Jiang Wenli and French actress Isabelle Huppert were just a few of the strong celebrity contingent who attended.
BIFF was established in 1996 and has since grown into one of the most influential film festivals in Asia, focused on discovering new movies and first-time directors.
The 16th annual BIFF is set to run until October 14th and features 308 films from 70 countries.
