A gunman walked into a Catholic church in the Spanish capital and shot a pregnant woman.
He then shot another person before he killed himself.
Emergency crews at the scene were unable to save the pregnant woman but performed a cesarean, saving the baby.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CEFERINA CUESTA LOPEZ. CHIEF OF EMERGENCY SERVICE, SAYING:
"She had a very deep wound in the head and she was under cardiac arrest and we could not do anything for her, so we tried to save her baby."
The condition of the baby is not known.
The other victim a 52 year-old woman was seriously injured.
One witness who went to her aid described her injuries.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) MAN WHO HELPED THE INJURED WOMAN, SAYING:
"She had a hole in her chest and she could not breathe."
Witnesses said the gunman had been walking around the church asking people when the service would start.
It is not know if the victims were known to the gunman or not.
