From being regarded as India's distant outpost to the possibility of being treated as the country’s springboard for forays into south-east Asia, Andaman and Nicobar islands have travelled a great distance in these past 60 years but India's only operational tri-services command, headquartered at Port Blair has a long way to go before it can truly be called India's buffer against increasing Chinese sojourns in India's own backyard.
