"Two and a Half Men'' actor, Jon Cryer, received the 2,449th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, hours before the ninth season premiere of the top rating sitcom. While the honour was for Cryer, his former co-star Charlie Sheen quickly became the talk of the ceremony. Sheen's notorious drug-fueled lifestyle and erratic behaviour led to him being sacked from the show last season. While praising Sheen, Cryer was quick to add he felt the show's producer, Chuck Lorre, did the right thing by firing him. SOUNDBITE Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men" actor, saying (English): "Perhaps, more importantly, I feel the need to thank Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, who when they saw somebody who was clearly in distress, took every possible means to try and help their friend and who, when it came time to make the ultimate decision, which was where nobody wanted to go, did something that, in my belief, saved my friend Charlie Sheen's life." Lorre, who was the target of many of Sheen's public, abusive rants about his firing, was a little more blunt in his speech. While he didn't specifically mention the actor, he made some pointed observations about the nature of celebrity worship. SOUNDBITE Chuck Lorre, "Two and a Half Men" producer, saying (English): "We elevate and worship because we are comforted by our adoration; it makes us feel good. Of course, when we want to feel really good, we crucify our anointed ones, or even better, watch them crucify themselves." Sheen's replacement, Ashton Kutcher, and the teenaged star of "Two and a Half Men", Angus T. Jones, were also on hand at the ceremony to celebrate with Cryer. Doug MacLaurin, Reuters.
