Washington's new special envoy to Myanmar Derek Mitchell heads into a meeting with the country's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Yangon City.
Details of the hour-long meeting at Suu Kyi's lakeside residence were not disclosed.
Suu Kyi was asked whether she would register her party if the government releases all political prisoners.
SOUNDBITE: Myanmar Pro-Democracy Leader Aung San Suu Kyi, saying: (Burmese):
"I would be able to answer this question only when it really happens. It's difficult to answer since we don't know when and how it will happen."
She said a timeframe is needed for talks with the government.

"It seems that there is going to be a time frame."
On Sunday, Mitchell visited a hospital for HIV patients run by pro-democracy activists.
Mitchell is scheduled to meet politicians and leaders of political parties before leaving Wednesday but is not scheduled to meet the President.
