SOUNDBITE: Artist and film maker Marcus Robinson saying (English):
"The whole world of construction like a living work of art, from a filming point of view I find it incredibly inspiring. I think this film is destined to be a real honoring of the spirit of working people and continuing the pioneering spirit of the people who built New York.
You know I knew that it would maybe be difficult to get the authorization and the permission to be able to do it but I was prepared to at least push as hard as possible on to that door to see if it was going to work. I was prepared to persevere until it happened.
It certainly started in 2006, filming as much as I could whenever there was money to buy film stock. It's all been shot on a 35 mm camera, quite an old one, a French camo flex Eclaire camera that's been adapted to shoot time lapse.
While the time lapse camera was working I would draw some of the views on the site. I then started doing some paintings directly on the site on wood, on wooden panels.
In those early days at the start of the site I remember some of the landscapes were incredibly beautiful because they were digging away the surface and going right down into the bedrock...and it was as if there is something eternal on which New York City is built, as if something in New York's soul had been laid bare.
Over years I struck up friendships with people who were really really helpful you know, suggesting places to get good angles from, helping me at times in difficult situations lower the camera gear into the lowest part of the bedrock.
SOUNDBITE: Gregory Franzese, Construction supervisor for Rogers and Sons Concrete Inc., saying (English):
"He's a talented guy. It's gonna give a nice meaning and i think it'll be a nice dedication to all those who perished here."
SOUNDBITE: Carpenter Estelle St. Clair saying (English):
"Besides construction workers no one sees what is going on so for Marcus to be here capturing it is really special."
SOUNDBITE: Artist and film maker Marcus Robinson saying (English):
"Just the love they have for their work and the pride they have for their work inspires me. And i hope the film will do justice to that and will honor that.
This is in a way, the greatest act of honoring the people who died in 9/11 and healing the skyline of New York City."
