Pieces of the Berlin Wall - The Worldwide Symbol of Freedom | Global 3000
  • 13 years ago
Fifty years ago, construction began on the Berlin Wall. To the West, the Wall was a symbol of oppression and totalitarianism. In communist Eastern Germany, it was known as the'Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart'. When the Wall fell, thousands of pieces of cement became symbols of freedom around the world.

Pieces of the Berlin Wall turned into international collector’s items after 1989. Entire slabs were shipped around the world. In the South Korean capital Seoul, a piece of the wall stands as a memorial - especially significant in a country that's still seeking its own reunification.
