Starting in 2013, Germans are set to get some tax relief. The coalition of conservative Christian Democrats and pro-business Free Democrats wants to reduce the overall tax burden by billions of euros, particularly for low- and middle-income earners. More than anything, the planned tax cuts are a concession to the FDP; the party has long been rallying for lower taxes. But there's resistance to the proposal – and not just from the opposition, but from within the parties'own ranks. Germany's governing coalition is still struggling to find a common path.
