Mezzotint is a way of creating texture on a copper plate under the intaglio regime of printing. Usually, an expensive tool called a 'rocker' is used. The tool comes in various widths and 'teeth-per-inch' and I needed to experiment with other ideas for producing the required plate texture: I didn't want to waste a lot of money on tools for creating a mezzotint print, in case I didn't have the artistic ability for this technique. I eventually tried using a 4" Dia. grinding disc - using a similar rocking motion as one would use with the professional implement.
