All of Germany’s political parties now want to move to alternative energies. But coal-fired power plants will be needed in Germany for a long time to come; they currently cover the lion’s share of Germany’s energy needs. A new technological process aims to make the plants cleaner by filtering out carbon dioxide. A pilot plant is already in place in Brandenburg. But citizens and many state politicians are skeptical.
