Inside Danish landscape paintings - painted around 1800...

8 years ago223 views

I enjoy doing landscape photography / videography and often find that old Danish landscape paintings can be extremely inspirational.

I stumbled upon these paintings on a Copenhagen museum website that is presenting landscape paintings from around 1800.

The late 18th century saw some large changes in Denmark as farmers were granted ownership of their farms and workers were granted the right to take up jobs outside the local area where they grew up as serfdom was abolished.

Denmark was still ruled by a King but people still felt a lot of freedom compared to earlier.

These paintings try to illustrate the new reality in Denmark during the period between 1780 and 1810.

1807, the British Navy bombed Copenhagen and seized the Danish Navy (Europe's second largest - since Denmark had allied with Napoleon's France) and 1813 Denmark went bankrupt, so the hardships weren't over yet.
