A group of homeless and disadvantaged individuals from Melbourne have found hope and inspiration, by singing. And what's more, they've also picked up a few awards along the way. NTD's Philippa Rayment has more.
Being homeless and disadvantaged hasn't stopped these Melbourne street people from singing.

Drawn together by their love of music, they've not only found joy and a sense of belonging, but also the formation of an award winning choir.
[Simon Paul Mansell, Choir Member]: "I hadn't been given the chance to be acknowledged or appreciated for what I did so this sort of gave me that, gave me a sense of family with the other choir members."
Guiding the group is Dr. Jonathon Welch, a highly accomplished opera singer, conductor, recording artist and song writer.
[Dr. Jonathon Welch, Musical Director]: "I just felt that there were other things that I needed to do in life, and other areas that I could use my musical skills to help contribute back to the community here in Australia."

[Dr. Jonathon Welch, Musical Director]: "To be able to create that community through music is very important for them and it is very important for me through my life."
Jonathon and his Choir of Hope & Inspiration (previously called the Choir of Hard Knocks) have become one of the great success stories in the history of Australian music.

[Irene Yoong, Audience Member]: "I thought it was fabulous ...we have no idea who they are, but it was great to sing, to join together, to raise our hands and just, you know it was really good."
[Hope Anderson, Audience Member]: "It is very inspiring, obviously disadvantaged people, being able to sing. And I think singing from your heart can draw you out of wherever you are."
