Six people have died and six others are injured after a passenger plane crashed in foggy conditions in the Irish Republic.

The turboprop aircraft travelling from Belfast crash was carrying ten passengers and two crew.

It landed on a runway at Cork Airport on the third attempt to land.

The Irish Aviation Authority said the Flight Avia No FLT400C was making an approach to Runway 17 when it got into difficulties in low visibility conditions.

Emergency services were called out to tackle a fire and debris has been scattered onto the runway over a wide area.

An investigation is now under way.
