what is a SEDATIVE FILLING?
When you have a cavity that is in proximity to the nerve (pulp) of the tooth, but the symptoms you experience are provoked only by a cold beverage or while chewing, the doctor might consider doing a medicament or sedative filling.
The purpose of this type of filling is to remove the cavity and also apply a medicine to the tooth to asses the recovery of the nerve of the tooth.
For the sedative filling we use a local anesthetic to thoroughly numb the tooth. Once the cavity has been removed and cleaned; the doctor will apply a medication to the tooth and place a temporary filling.
The doctor will keep the tooth under observation for approximately 1 month; before placing a permanent filing.
Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water, and then gently swish the water around the tooth and spit.
