UP AND DOWN TOWN

An eccentric, deceptive and almost surreal journey up and down the hills of San Francisco.

UP AND DOWN TOWN depends on symmetry to produce a seemingly impossible series of cityscapes. The original road movie is duplicated left and right and up and down thus shadowing itself and distorting three-dimensional space in a way that defies everyday logic.

After we reach the end of the journey, and during the rewind, that frame-long stills are imposed upon the viewer. A microsecond of suspended time, a frozen frame, which interrupts the furious flow of both audio and visual.

These fleeting images are there to encourage the viewer to reflect on the actual passage of time and the world we live in - to enrich a sense of time and place and to help ensure that passing moments are memorable.
