Anna Chapman registers her name as a trademark

Glamorous ex-Russian spy Anna Chapman has registered her name as a trademark as her fame grows.

The flame-haired 28-year-old, nicknamed "Agent 90-60-90" by the Russian press in a reference to her hourglass figure, is the best known member of a ten-person spy ring arrested in the US last summer.

Since becoming a household name, Chapman has won a consulting job at a Russian bank and starred in a seductive lingerie photo shoot in the Russian-language edition of Maxim magazine.

She was recently named as one of the leaders of the Kremlin-backed youth party Molodaya Gvardia or Young Guard.

Two weeks ago, Chapman launched a weekly television show called Mysteries of the World with Anna Chapman.

She applied to the Russian intellectual property and trademark agency in August, just over a month after returning to Russia from the US, to register her name as a trademark for eight lines of merchandise, from sandpaper and floor wax to clothing, watches, vodka and beer.

Russian patent attorney Vyacheslav Kliukin said Chapman is protecting the rights to her name for commercial purposes - a first step in realising any proceeds for future branded products.

He said: "It's more to do with advertising. You know, many people would like to have publicity and she's not the only one who is going to get more publicity by registering her trademark."

Chapman's trademark will take effect on Febuary 25 and will last until 2020.

Her surname comes from her British ex-husband Alex Chapman, while her little-known maiden name, Kushchenko, is in her Russian passport.
