Flaws in FSC Certification Process

Former Greenpeace co-founder, Dr. Patrick Moore leads a team to Indonesia to evaluate the sustainability practices of Asia Pulp & Paper. Here Dr. Moore discusses the many different schemes to certify paper products. The most popular in North America and Europe is FSC, the Forest Stewardship Council, which is heavily influenced by environmental activists who seem to have a strong bias against large companies -- whether or not those companies are operating sustainably. APP was briefly certified by the FSC, but the organization withdrew certification even though APP followed all the appropriate guidelines. Greenspirit Strategies believes this was a purely trade and political decision based on zero scientific grounding.
