Private investors and shareholders have found a new investment toy to play with: They are speculating with agricultural pasture land in eastern Germany. As a consequence, prices for farmers’ fields have increased by up to 100 percent – a threat to the existence of many farmers. The problem is, the leases on a lot of state-owned land run out in two years time.
